History
Dixons.co.uk is an electrical retailer in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and is owned by DSG International plc. First opened as a photographic shop by Charles Kalms in 1937 to grasp the increasing popularity of phatography, and to make it more available to the general public, who found it hard to find a reliable studio for speedy photograph development.
It continued to expand during the second world war eventually operating from 7 stores. Up until 2006 the chain had a store in most towns and cities across the UK and Ireland.
Dixons Today
On 5th April 2006, they made a decision that they would remove the brand from the high street and would be using the Currys brand, renaming it Currys.digital.
Dixons then became an internet only outlet apart from its stores in Ireland, and other locations such as airports.
