History
Established in 1923 and founded by John Moores Littlewoods started its life as a retail and famous football pools outfit in Liverpool, Merseyside. Nearly everyone of a certain generation can remember the Littlewoods Pools, with the collectors visiting weekly to collect the coupons and if you were lucky give out the winnings.
It established itself as a catalogue home shopping company in the 1970’s, allowing householders to order shopping by post. By the early 1980’s, Littlewoods had expanded, opening its first call centre, processing orders over the telephone. At its peak they employed around 4,000 employees working in the call centres and in the high street stores.

Shop Direct was formally known as the Littlewoods Shop Direct Group until a corporate rebranding in 2008.
