History
Founded as part of the Thomson Travel group in 1965, Thomson Holidays is one of the most trusted and widely used package holiday companies in the UK and Europe. The original group consisted of 3 travel agencies and Britannia Airways. Later in 1972 during a restructuring of the travel group the chain of Lunn Poly travel agencies was acquired to give the group a more powerful high street presence and to push through the package deals the group had to offer. It also helped strengthen the group with intense competition building up in the 1970’s due to package holidays becoming increasingly popular in the UK.
The Lunn Poly name lasted until 2004 when the chain of agencies was rebranded under the Thomson name to establish a power brand on the high street.
Today
The Company is now well established as an online brand trading from Thomson.co.uk with most of its business now coming from online sales rather than from the high street or telephone. Although they still have a major presence in both areas, selling holiday packages from all the major tour operators.
The group also provide a large range of holiday add-ons such as foreign exchange, airport parking services, car hire booking, airport hotel booking and holiday insurance.
